TRITON Restaurant in the basement of the Adria Hotel Prague on Wenceslas Square was built in 1912 as an art gastronomic club, where famous Czech artists like Voskovec, Werich and Vlasta Burian had their perfomances. The restaurant in the stalactite cave harmoniously combines the unique atmosphere given by unique interior with more than a century of history and modern high gastronomy.
History and personalities
The history of the burgher's house on Wenceslas Square in Prague, where the Triton Restaurant is currently located, dates from the late 14th century.
The interiors of the Restaurant TRITON are influenced by important art trends at the turn of the 19 and 20th centuries. Symbolism, which follows romanticism, using of symbols or signs that try to uncover the secret inside things.
The interiors of the Restaurant Triton offer you sights of not only Greek, but also Roman and Egyptian mythologies. Every detail has its hidden meaning, including the orientation of the cardinal points. The symbols on the eastern side, the entrance to the restaurant, represent the dawn—the beginning, positive qualities and inner purity. In contrast, on the western side you will find night symbols, negative qualities and conclusion.
The central theme is the ancient tragedy of Orpheus and his wife, Eurydice. The decoration of the restaurant represents the underworld, Hades's realm of the dead. You can see not only Orpheus and his lyre, Eurydice. Pythia and Charon, but also Hades, here called according to the Roman mythology, Pluto.
The restaurant is named after Triton, son Poseidon, god of the seas, and Amphitrite, goddess of the seas. He is half man, half fish. Like his father, Poseidon, he also carries a trident. His main symbol, however, was a shell, which he used to calm or ripple the waters.
ORPHEUS was a legendary artist, admired for his beautiful voice and the sweet tones that came from his lyre. One day, he fell in love with the beautiful Naiad (a water nymph) Eurydice, and married her. When Eurydice died, the unhappy Orpheus went to the underworld to bring her back among the living. His music was so magic that even Hades himself, the king of the underworld, felt compassion for Orpheus. He agreed to return his wife to him, but under one condition, that during their return from the underworld, Orpheus should not turn around or even look at her...
An inseparable part of the whole TRITON Restaurant team is a chef de cuisine Tomas Kohut, restaurant manager Josef Liska and sommelier Karel Sadke.
After working in restaurants all over Slovakia, Tomas decided to gain experience in Prague at the Michelin-starred restaurant Alcron. Tomas Kohut completed many internships, not only at home but also abroad, where he discovered that the basis of good food is the idea you integrate into food.
After successfully completing his studies, Milan worked in five-star hotels in Prague and the Michelin restaurant Alcron. At Triton Restaurant, he applies his experience so that guests have an extraordinary experience and are happy to return to the restaurant.
Marc Le Breton
Desserts and pastries at Triton Restaurant are prepared by Marc Le Breton, a Pastry Chef from Vannes in Brittany. Marc is a passionate traveller and it is on his travels that he seeks inspiration for his unique desserts.
Josef Liska - the successor of the „Liska“ waiter dynasty says about his work: „I have been working in Triton Restaurant for 20 years and I take care of it like my second family. My team and I make sure that you always get a unique experience of great gastronomy and relaxed atmosphere. The feeling that we have done much more for you than usual.“
Michal Liska is another member of the Liska family of waiters and together with his team he is involved in creating the right combination of food and drinks. „I like how a great dish paired with a good wine together creates an amazing experience. Eating well is one of the greatest pleasures we have in life.“
Karel Sadke maintains an in-house wine cellar with over a hundred wine titles from around the world and selects the world's best wines for you. Taste also exclusive wines from the Salabka winery, created exclusively for our guests.
After 12 years working in renowned restaurants in the Tyrolean Alps, Fero Martoník joined the Triton Restaurant team in 2023. His passion lies in creativity and constantly pushing his own boundaries. The fusion of flavours and textures is the key to his gastronomic art.
Daniel worked in Munich restaurants. After the coronavirus pandemic, Daniel returned to Slovakia and has been working at Triton Restaurant since 2023. „What fascinates me most about my job is the variety of flavours, the range of colours and the endless combinations. “
